Arsenal links with Mykhailo Mudryk rubbished

Arsenal have made their stance clear about whether they are interested in resurrecting their pursuit of Chelsea flop Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Arsenal have been linked with a surprising move for struggling Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk in the summer, but transfer insider Dean Jones has branded the reported interest as “nonsense,” adding that he hasn’t “heard great things” about the Ukrainian international since his arrival in the Premier League.

Jones said to GMS: “It sounds like nonsense that Arsenal would want to sign Mudryk now. I don’t see a world where they could believe there’ll be much value in that deal. So, unless Chelsea are willing to take a huge hit on him, there doesn’t seem to be much sense to it. I haven’t heard great things about Mudryk since he arrived at Chelsea, although I think there are some reasons for that.”

Things have not exactly gone according to plan for Mykhailo Mudryk at Chelsea. The Ukrainian signed on the dotted line in the January transfer window, having looked around the world like he was set to sign for Arsenal.

The Gunners had been in pole position to sign the electric winger, following some dazzling Champions League displays for Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, they saw two bids swiftly turned down by Shakhtar throughout the course of the January window, despite the constant theme of the player himself pushing for a move on social media.

Mudryk was quickly identified as Edu Gaspar’s number one target for an attacking signing, but Chelsea were the eventual winners of the transfer race after Todd Boehly paid £88 million for his services.

Arsenal eventually pivoted to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton, with the Belgian impressing in limited game-time for the Gunners after his arrival.

Mikel Arteta’s side will see the whole saga as a bullet dodged, as Mudryk has struggled at Chelsea and has just three goals in his 34 Premier League appearances.

That said, the Gunners’ have made some surprising signings from Chelsea in recent years, such as Jorginho last winter and Kai Havertz last summer.

And reports have recently suggested something similar could be the case with the north Londoners about to reignite their interest in signing Mudryk. However, as per Jones, Arsenal have no intention to pursue a deal for Mudryk.

The 23-year-old was linked with a shock move to Bayern Munich last month, while Juventus have also been described as candidates to sign the winger if he leaves the Blues in the near future.
