Manchester United have reportedly contacted Gestifute, the agency representing Antonio Silva, who will cost around €100 million.

According to a report by O Jogo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Antonio Silva is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are in the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have established contact with Gestifute over a possible move for the Portuguese international, who will cost around €100 million.

The Rise and Rise of Antonio Silva

Antonio Silva has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world in the last couple of years. A native of Viseu, the 20-year-old spent most of his formative years around his homeland before graduating from the youth division at Benfica a few years ago.

The Portuguese international is now a mainstay at the back for his club and country, turning out seven times for Portugal. Meanwhile, the youngster has enjoyed a solid 2023/24 campaign thus far, making 35 appearances while raking in over 3,000 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, Silva’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on securing Silva’s services, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors. Other well-known outfits are also interested in signing him, but the Red Devils are pressing hard to beat them to his signature.

Manchester United Calling?

Manchester United’s interest in Antonio Silva is understandable. The Red Devils are in the market for a centre-back amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans. While Varane and Evans are out of contract this summer, Maguire and Lindelof might be on the chopping block.

So, it behoves Manchester United to invest in a centre-back in the summer transfer window. Silva has thus emerged as a viable target, with the Red Devils establishing contact with Gestifute, the agency representing him. Meanwhile, the Portuguese international will cost around €100 million this summer.

Manchester United might think twice about shelling out €100 million to secure Silva’s services in the summer transfer window. But he is an option worth considering as they look for a long-term central defensive solution.
