Barcelona might reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper Luis Maximiano in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Luis Maximiano is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena face an uncertain future at the Catalan club. So, the Blaugrana might launch the offensive for the 25-year-old goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Who is Luis Maximiano?

Luis Maximiano is currently in his second stint in La Liga. A native of Celeirós, he spent his formative years in his homeland, passing through the academies at four clubs before graduating from the Sporting CP youth division. He rose in prominence at the Portuguese club before joining Granada in August 2021.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a successful debut season with Granada before Lazio came calling a year later. But the move to Lazio has not worked out, and the Biancocelesti sanctioned a loan move to Almeria last summer. However, Maximiano has endured a frustrating campaign back in La Liga.

With Almeria rooted to the bottom of the standings, the Portuguese goalkeeper has dealt with a dreadful defence, conceding 45 goals in 23 appearances while keeping only four clean sheets thus far this season. But Maximiano’s stock remains high, with Barcelona interested in signing him in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona Calling?

Barcelona’s interest in Luis Maximiano comes in the wake of emerging speculation surrounding Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German international has been a mainstay between the sticks for Barcelona for nearly a decade. But with the Blaugrana desperate to balance the books and raise funds for summer signings, they might sanction the sale of a few high-value assets.

So, ter Stegen might leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window. In addition, Inaki Pena faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club, thus necessitating the need for a goalkeeper. Maximiano has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

The 25-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper might not cost a bomb. So, if Marc-Andre ter Stegen joins a Saudi Pro League club, Barcelona might ensure a turnover of goalkeepers while saving money. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the goalkeeping department at the Catalan club.
