Manchester United are considering the low-cost acquisition of Ross Barkley to add an experienced midfielder in the summer.

According to The Sun, Manchester United could plot a surprise move for Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley. The 30-year-old Englishman has been in good form for the Hatters, as his complex contract could allow the Red Devils to sign him for a low fee.

Manchester United plot Ross Barkley’s move

Ross Barkley has surprised a few with his excellent performance in Luton Town this season. The Hatters signed the 30-year-old Englishman on a free transfer in the summer and handed him a contract with its complexities, which could see the midfielder leave at a low cost next summer.

Luton are one of the sides in danger of going down this season, and in case of their demotion, Barkley will certainly leave for another Premier League side. However, with the complexities in his contract, the report states other clubs might have the chance to sign him for a low cost.

Manchester United are plotting such a low-cost move for the 30-year-old Englishman as they are keen on bringing an experienced head to shore up their midfield. Recently, there were links to Guido Rodriguez, with the Argentine star available on a free transfer in the summer. Similarly, they are now keen on Barkley potentially as one of the midfield changes ahead of the next window.

Barkley might relish joining another bigger side despite his apparent failures at Chelsea, where he was on the periphery for a long time. The chance to sign up for Manchester United may appeal to the 30-year-old Englishman, especially if Luton goes down at the season’s end.

Barkley can replace Casemiro and Amrabat

Manchester United have a heavy midfield as things stand, with some of their current stars likely to make way in the summer. For instance, the club may have decided on Sofyan Amrabat’s future after some below-par performances since joining from Fiorentina, with the Moroccan not considered part of their long-term plans.

Meanwhile, there are plans to find a suitor for Casemiro after the Brazilian’s visible performance drop this season. There are rumours of a return to Real Madrid, although the likelihood of a Saudi move is also high for the Brazilian midfielder.
