Manchester United are keen to explore a move for Victor Gyokeres in the summer and will face competition for the Sporting CP star.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are seriously considering entering the chase for Viktor Gyokeres in the summer. Erik ten Hag reportedly wanted the Swedish striker in January, but his high asking price curtailed any move to Old Trafford, as they might gear up an approach ahead of the summer with Chelsea also keen.
Manchester United enter Gyokeres race
Erik ten Hag approved a big-money move for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, with the Dutchman wanting a focal point striker to lead the line. The Danish star has taken his sweet time, but now he looks like an astute acquisition, having started to find the back of the net regularly.
Now, the next step for Ten Hag would be to find someone who could complement Hojlund and bring the best out of the forward line. They had looked at Viktor Gyokeres before the January window, with the Swedish star offering a robust presence that could help bridge the gap in build-up play.
Gyokeres’ €100 million release clause probably forced any club looking at him to back away, as Sporting would not have sold him in January for anything less. They might agree for more, but they have no reason to demand the entire clause, considering the season he’s had with 29 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
Manchester United might ponder opening talks for the €100 million-rated striker when the summer window opens as Ten Hag wants the Swede to shore up his attacking lineup. The Red Devils may not have a clear path as Chelsea is one of the sides that is deeply interested and will pounce for the sporting star should they fail in pursuing their top striker target.
Chelsea are considering Gyokeres as an option
Chelsea are in the market for a new striker and will target some notable names that would make them a force next season. Victor Osimhen remains their priority target, with multiple reports stating the Napoli star would prefer a switch to Stamford Bridge over other suitors.
The Blues might prefer the Napoli man, although complications could still arise when the season ends. While the need for a new striker remains a priority, they might quickly shift their attention towards Gyokeres should Osimhen slip out of their hands, although they are unwilling to pay €100 million for the Sporting CP star. Hence, the competition for Gyokeres will be intense, especially if Manchester United are in the hunt.
