Barcelona sporting director Deco recently held talks with the representatives of Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid.

According to Jijantes FC, Alphonso Davies is seemingly the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan club’s sporting director, Deco, has recently held talks with the 23-year-old’s agent, who also met representatives from Real Madrid. Bayern Munich will likely part ways with him in the summer transfer window due to his contract situation.

The Alphonso Davies Tale

The Alphonso Davies story is one of grit and determination. Born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents fled Liberia during the Second Civil War, the family eventually moved to Canada, where he spent most of his formative years before graduating from the Vancouver Whitecaps youth division.

The 23-year-old was a promising young winger during his time in Canada but has blossomed into a marauding left-back since joining Bayern Munich in January 2019. The Canadian international has come leaps and bounds in the last half a decade, turning out 180 times thus far for Bayern Munich while chipping in with nine goals and 28 assists.

The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Many Premier League bigwigs, including Liverpool, are keen on signing Alphonso Davies. But a move to La Liga might be on the cards, with Barcelona seemingly joining Real Madrid in the hunt.

La Liga Calling

The report has claimed that Barcelona sporting director Deco recently met Davies’s agent and held talks over a possible move. The Catalan club’s interest is understandable, considering Marcos Alonso will likely leave as a free agent this summer. And Barcelona will look to add to the competition for Alejandro Balde, with the Bayern Munich full-back being a viable target.

But Davies’s wage demands might pose a problem for Barcelona, with another report revealing he wants to pocket €12 million-a-year wages. That might not be an issue for Real Madrid, who will look to replace Ferland Mendy with Alphonso Davies. And recent reports have claimed that the Merengues have sealed an agreement with the 23-year-old.

That might suggest they are ready to meet his €12 million-a-year wage demands. So, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can pose any threat to Real Madrid or if the Canadian international moves to the Santiago Bernabeu.
