Manchester United are still interested in Joshua Zirkzee and may consider the Dutchman as an alternative to some other targets.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have retained an interest in Jushua Zirkzee ahead of the summer. The Bologna star featured on their radar throughout January, although he is no longer their priority target but a significant alternative to some other names on their shortlist.

Manchester United retain Joshua Zirkzee’s interest

Erik ten Hag wanted a new striker in the January window as he sought a different option to Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international was misfiring at that time, although he has had a few good games and nowadays gets regularly on the scoresheet.

Joshua Zirkzee was a target for Manchester United in January, and they were linked until the end of that window. With Hojlund picking up form, he’s also similar to the Dutchman in terms of style and physicality, which had cast some doubts about whether they would pursue the Bologna star when the summer window opened.

As per Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United may have shifted their attention primarily towards Mathys Tel and could make the Bayern Munich star their priority target in the summer. Yet, they are reportedly still interested in Zirkzee as an alternative option should they fail with other moves.

Hence, as things stand, Manchester United may keep their eyes on the 22-year-old star, who could still finish the Serie A season strongly. Things could get more apparent in the summer when the club evaluates their position in the transfer market as well as with their manager, Ten Hag.

Manchester United faces Arsenal in a competition for Zirkzee

Manchester United may have been linked with Zirkzee for most of January; they might be aware of interest coming from Arsenal. The north Londoners are reportedly considered front runners for the Dutchman, as Mikel Arteta targets a new striker in the summer.

Even for Arteta, Zirkzee may not represent the priority target and could come into the picture as a significant alternative to the likes of Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney. The Bologna star will undoubtedly have a much lower asking price compared to the other two, which has kept Arsenal interested in the 22-year-old.
