Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly held talks to sign 25-year-old Serie A-winning striker Victor Osimhen.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Victor Osimhen is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are in the market for a prolific striker heading into the summer transfer window. And they have already held talks to sign the 25-year-old Serie A-winning forward.
The Rise and Rise of Victor Osimhen
Victor Osimhen has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Napoli from LOSC Lille. The Partenopei had shelled out a sizeable sum of €75 million to secure the services of the Nigerian international. And while he encountered a few teething problems, he has become a prolific attacker for the Italian outfit.
The 25-year-old was the top scorer in Serie A last season as Napoli ended a three-decade-long wait to lift the Scudetto. But he has not been as productive this term due to a few issues off the field, with injuries also playing spoilsport. Nonetheless, Osimhen has a decent tally of eight goals and three assists in 18 appearances.
The former Lille striker recently signed a new contract with Napoli, inserting a release clause in the deal. Such a development has come as a boost for his prospective suitors, who will look to secure his services in the summer transfer window. And Chelsea might be a potential destination for Victor Osimhen.
Chelsea Want Osimhen
Chelsea’s interest in Osimhen is understandable, considering they have struggled to remain productive in the final third this season. Nicolas Jackson has not made the impact he would have hoped for since arriving from Villarreal. So, it behoves Chelsea to invest in a prolific striker this summer.
Victor Osimhen has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, who will look to beat heavy competition for his signature. The Blues should have the funds to trigger his release clause this summer. And they have already held initial talks to secure his services ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Paris Saint-Germain and a few other top clubs will look to beat Chelsea to Osimhen’s signature in the summer transfer window. And with the possibility of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League being slim, they might face a tall order to land him.
