Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur table an offer for the services of the 26-year-old Chelsea target Frenkie De Jong.

According to a report by Jijantes via Sportwitness, Tottenham Hotspur have made a surprise move to sign Frenkie De Jong. The north London club have submitted an offer worth €60 million to land the Barcelona star at the club.

Ange Postecoglou has made a promising start at Spurs. He has managed to get his idea across to his players and they are playing an attractive brand of football. The start could have been even better if they had enough depth in their squad.

The Australian manager needs to make a few more signings before he has everything in place. Signing a new number nine and a world-class midfielder will be high on their priority ahead of next season. And, it seems they have already made moves to sign one of their top targets.

Tottenham’s surprise pursuit of Frenkie De Jong

The north London club feel De Jong is an ideal fit for Postecoglou’s style of play and have already made a big move in their pursuit of the 26-year-old midfielder.

Spurs have submitted an offer worth €60 million including add-ons for the Dutch international. They have put forward a four-year contract for the player and are ready to give him an opportunity to match his wages as Barcelona.

They will pay him less to start with but have given him objective-based bonuses to match his current salary. The London club have been proactive in their pursuit of De Jong’s services because they do not want to miss out on his services.

Chelsea’s interest & Barcelona’s financial crisis

Tottenham are not the only Premier League club that are after his signatures, even Chelsea are also interested in the 26-year-old. The Blues want to bolster their midfield in the summer. There is a possibility of Conor Gallagher leaving at the end of the season and De Jong could be a great signing to replace him.

While he still has over two years left on his deal and is an integral part of the Barcelona setup, he hasn’t really clicked for them. And, with the Catalan giants in a financial crisis, the funds raised from his departure could help them reinforce other areas of the pitch. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Spanish giants are willing to negotiate the departure of their star or not.
