Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid reportedly need to pay €50 million to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer.
According to a report by Planeta Madrid, Nico Williams is gaining popularity in the market. The Spaniard is a target for Arsenal, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, among others heading into the summer transfer window. And the prospective suitors need to fork out €50 million to land the Athletic Club forward.
The Nico Williams Story
Nico Williams has established himself as one of the best young wingers in La Liga since joining Athletic Club from Osasuna in July 2013. The younger brother of Inaki Williams, the 21-year-old has come leaps and bounds at the Basque outfit after rising through the ranks before making his first-team debut.
The Spanish international is also growing in stature in his national team, turning out 11 times thus far. Meanwhile, he is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 campaign, contributing to 15 goals in 24 appearances, finding the back of the net five times while providing ten assists. Williams’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Chelsea.
A Man in Demand
Reports this month have revealed that Nico Williams has been the subject of scouting missions by Arsenal. The Gunners are in the market for a wide attacker, as Mikel Arteta wants more competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The Spaniard has thus emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.
As for Chelsea, it is not clear why Chelsea might be interested in Williams. While the Chelsea attack has often flattered to deceive, they need to offload players from the offensive unit before entering the market for new signings. Nonetheless, the 21-year-old Spanish international is a target for the West London club.
Real Madrid will also look to bolster the attack this summer. While the Merengues are prioritising signing Kylian Mbappe, they might also add another attacker after only landing Joselu last summer. Nico Williams is thus a viable target for Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Athletic Club will point to his release clause of €50 million if suitors come calling.
So, unless Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and others fork out €50 million, they will not have any chance of signing the 21-year-old Spaniard. But that might not be enough, with the player’s wish holding the key to his next destination.
