Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 25-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker Donyell Malen at the end of the season.
A report from Fichajes has claimed that Donyell Malen is on Liverpool’s radar, and they are looking to snap him up in the summer. The Dutchman has contributed to ten goals and three assists across all competitions this season, and the 25-year-old could be a useful option to have in the attack.
The versatile forward is valued at €40 million, and Liverpool would have no problems paying up for him. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund can work out a deal now.
Malen is capable of operating as a centre-forward as well as a winger. He will add creativity and goals to the side in the final third. The attacker is a proven performer in the Bundesliga, and the step up to the Premier League would be coming at the right time for him.
He is entering his peak years and he seems ready to compete at a higher level. Liverpool need more quality in the side to get back to the top of English football, and utility players like Malen could prove to be shrewd investments.
Malen could struggle for regular starts
The 25-year-old has been a key player for Borussia Dortmund, and he is used to playing regularly in the Bundesliga. However, that might not be the case if he moves to the Premier League. Liverpool have several quality attackers at their disposal, and they might not be able to guarantee him regular action.
Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Luis Diaz could all be ahead of him in the pecking order. That said, Salah has been linked with an exit, and it remains to be seen what happens. Such a situation might not be favourable for the Dutchman. It will be interesting to see if he decides to seek first-team assurances before making the move.
The reported €40 million asking price seems reasonable for a proven performer like him, and the 25-year-old could justify the investment if he ends up moving to Liverpool at the end of the season.
