Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are looking to acquire the services of the 24-year-old Portuguese international Diogo Costa.

According to a report by Fichajes, Chelsea are on the lookout for a new shot-stopper and they have their eyes on Diogo Costa. The 24-year-old has been doing wonders for FC Porto in the Portuguese top flight and the Blues feel he could be a great addition to their ranks.

Costa has come up the ranks at Porto, he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2019. Over the years, he has featured in a total of 137 matches for the Portuguese club and has kept a clean sheet on 57 occasions.

His impressive performances have earned him a place in the Portuguese national team. The 24-year-old featured for them at the World Cup back in 2022 and has since established himself as a key figure.

Costa has huge potential, his abilities in goal and his recent performances have attracted a lot of attention. While the Porto goalkeeper’s contract with his parent club runs until the summer of 2027, there could be attempts from big clubs to prise him away.

Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 24-year-old. The Blues are always on the lookout for players who can improve their squad and they feel Costa is a player they cannot afford to miss out on.

Despite having signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton in the summer, the London club are not quite convinced that he can be their number-one in goal for years to come. The Spanish international has been a touch inconsistent. He hasn’t been able to hit the ground running and it might cost him his place in the team.

According to the report, the Blues are willing to sanction the sale of the 26-year-old goalkeeper in the summer. His departure will bring in decent funds that could used to help them land a replacement. Costa is one of the names on their radar.

Chelsea are keen on having him in their ranks and will surely try their best to strike a deal in the next transfer window. They are reportedly willing to fork out €80 million to land the Portuguese international. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the move actually ends up happening.
