Manchester City are reportedly keen on the Japanese attacker Takefusa Kubo.
A report from Fichajes claims that the Premier League giants are keen on the 22-year-old Real Sociedad attacker but they will face competition from Real Madrid. Los Blancos are keen on the attacker as well and they have a first refusal on their former Academy graduate.
Kubo has a €60 million release clause in his contract and Manchester City should have no problem paying that. But the first refusal gives Real Madrid an edge in the transfer race. It remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants are prepared to pay up for him.
Kubo has established himself as one of the best attackers in the Spanish league with Real Sociedad and he could prove to be a superb acquisition for Manchester City. He has six goals and four assists across all competitions this season and he is versatile enough to operate as a winger on either flank as well as a central attacking midfielder.
The Premier League giants signed a quality left winger in Jeremy Doku at the start of the season. However, they have had to field players like Phil Foden as a makeshift winger on the right. Pep Guardiola is looking to bring in a specialist option for the right flank and Kubo fits the profile.
The Japanese international has proven himself in the Spanish league and he certainly good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the world. The opportunity to join Manchester City could be quite tempting for him.
Manchester City have a proven record of competing for major trophies on a consistent basis and they could offer Kubo the platform to showcases abilities at a higher level.
Meanwhile, the opportunity to return to his boyhood club will also be a tempting proposition for the player.
Real Madrid could certainly use more quality in their attack and signing a right sided winger would be a good decision for them.
Both clubs have the financial muscle to get the deal done and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
