Chelsea and Tottenham continue to keep tabs on Miguel Gutierrez ahead of a potential summer move, but Real Madrid could pose a threat.
According to Javier Rodríguez Pascual, Miguel Gutierrez could attract significant competition for his signature when the summer window opens. Chelsea and Tottenham have continued to keep tabs on the left-back’s progress, as he could depart Girona in the close season, with Real Madrid also expected to enter the race.
Chelsea and Tottenham are vying for Miguel Gutierrez.
Girona, as a whole have surprised the world of football with their rise to prominence this season. The Spanish side are currently second in La Liga and have a great chance of upstaging Real Madrid for the league title, but there’s still a long way to go in the season.
The most significant credit should go to their players for putting in consistent performances so far this season. One of their top performers have come from left-back Miguel Gutierrez, who reportedly rejected Premier League approaches to stay put with Girona.
However, when the summer window opens, the 22-year-old La Liga defender could depart for a new challenge, with Chelsea and Tottenham already interested in the left-back. The duo, alongside Arsenal and Bayern Munich, were exploring a winter move but failed, considering Gutierrez wanted a stay.
Chelsea are growing tired of the persistent injury issues suffered by their key left-backs over some time, and could sing a new player in the position. Tottenham have a strong enough presence in Destiny Udogie, although Ange Postecoglou might find it wise to add intense competition for the Italian international.
The London duo could go head to head with some of their rivals for the 22-year-old La Liga defender. Manchester United are also keen, although it’s Real Madrid who could pose the biggest threat to Chelsea and Tottenham in the chase for Gutierrez.
Real Madrid keen on Gutierrez
Guitierrez used to be a Real Madrid player and could soon find himself wearing the white shirt in the Spanish capital. Sold for a meagre sum of €4 million, Florentino Perez inserted favourable clauses, including a buy-back clause worth a reported €8 million and a 50% sell-on condition.
Hence, from a financial standpoint, Girona may not gain too much despite the 22-year-old La Liga defender’s increasing market value. Gutierrez could also lean towards a return to Madrid, which could blow the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and the other chasers out of the race once and for all.
