Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the progress of former Real Madrid full-back Miguel Gutierrez, who might cost around £22 million.

According to a report by The Sun, Miguel Gutierrez is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are prioritising signing a left-back in the January transfer window. So, the Girona full-back, valued at around £22 million, has emerged as a target. But Real Madrid can play spoilsport in the race to sign the Spanish full-back.

The Rise of Miguel Gutierrez

Miguel Gutierrez has found a stable footing in his career since joining Girona from Real Madrid in August 2022. The 22-year-old could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabeu. So, he ditched Real Madrid to get his professional career underway, with the decision paying off at Estadi Montilivi.

The Spaniard has been a regular for Girona in the last 18 months and has played a pivotal role in the club’s rise to the upper echelons of La Liga. Gutierrez is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 season, chipping in with one goal and three assists in 20 appearances thus far.

The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with many high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid, considering signing him. Gutierrez is also the subject of interest from several Premier League clubs. Manchester United have now joined the race to sign the in-form full-back, who will cost around £22 million.

Manchester United Join Miguel Gutierrez Chase

Manchester United decided to cancel Sergio Reguilon’s loan spell, with the former Real Madrid full-back returning to Tottenham. But with Tyrell Malacia yet to regain fitness after his battle with a long-term injury, the Red Devils are prioritising a left-back this month. Miguel Gutierrez has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

It is unclear if Manchester United will can raise £22 million to secure Gutierrez’s services amid Financial Fair Play concerns. In addition, Real Madrid might play spoilsport, as they can re-sign the 22-year-old for a nominal price. They can then resell the Spaniard for a price much higher than £22 million.

Real Madrid can also integrate Gutierrez into the first-team picture amid the search for a left-back. So, a move to Manchester United might not see the light of day, especially with Chelsea and Arsenal also keen.
