West Ham United will compete with Manchester United for Le Havre’s 21-year-old Ligue 1 captain, Arouna Sangante, in the summer.

According to Football Insider, West Ham United and Manchester United will battle for Arouna Sangante in the summer. The versatile defender from Le Hav re has made a good mark in Ligue 1, with more Premier League sides chasing his signature.

Arouna Sangante has been one of the top defenders in Ligue 1 this season, as he could be one of those emerging stars likely to move on to a more significant challenge. With regards to new surroundings, there are plenty of clubs in the mix already.

The 21-year-old Ligue 1 captain of Le Havre already has premium suitors from the Premier League, including Manchester United. Erik ten Hag will enter the summer window in search of a centre-back or two, depending on how many of his defenders leave.

Harry Maguire came close to leaving last summer, but since then, he has reclaimed his place at the heart of Manchester United’s defence. Tern Hag values the England international’s talents and experience, which could see him keep the former Leicester man.

However, the likes of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans might leave, while there are strong rumours of Raphael Varane also considering his future at Old Trafford. They might look at Sangante as an option, although there are chances Ten Hag might bring him as well as one other defender to shore up his backline.

West Ham have reportedly advanced in their chase of Sangante, as some quarters consider the Hammers are one of the primary contenders for the 21-year-old Ligue 1 captain. David Moyes might also see through a few changes to his backline, with some centre-backs likely to depart.

Angello Ogbonna is at the wrong end of his age, while Dinos Mavropanos is not someone Moyes might rely on to become his sure starter at the back. Nayef Aguerd’s future also remains a source of concern, but Sangante does not play on the Moroccan’s side.

Sangante can also play as a right-back, which may make Moyes think about making a move purely for his versatility. However, the Hammers might have to dig deep in their pursuit of the 21-year-old Ligue 1 defender, considering Le Havre has him tied down to a new deal until 2026.
