Newcastle United could sell Miguel Almiron in the summer to boost their cash reserves as Eddie Howe eyes fundamental changes.

According to Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Miguel Almiron could leave Newcastle United in the summer after choosing to stay after January rumours. Eddie Howe is eyeing massive changes to his squad, which could see him sell some stars in a bid to raise cash for new transfers.

Newcastle United are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, courtesy of their Saudi-based owners. Yet, they find themselves in a difficult situation with the FFP. The Premier League’s profit & sustainability rules prevented them and many other top clubs from spending in January.

Newcastle United may have wanted several new faces to boost their squad as well as their flailing chase for a top-four place. Eddie Howe had lost many key players to injury, and it seemed imperative for them to buy, but they could not have done that without selling.

There were strong rumours about Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab wanting to sign Miguel Almiron. But the winger did not want the move. Signed for a then record-breaking £21 million deal, the Paraguayan forward has been a consistent performer for the Magpies. But his time at St. James’ Park might already be coming to an end.

Whether Saudi Pro League clubs come back in for the forward remains to be seen. But Newcastle United have reportedly made their decision to sell him. They will want a considerable fee in return, considering Almiron will have two years left in the summer. Dean Jones of Give Me Sport thinks there’s a possibility the winger might depart in the summer, with Howe keen to find ways to raise cash.

The Magpies are also planning further changes beyond Almiron, with the club ready to cash in on Joelinton as well. The Brazilian midfielder has not agreed on fresh terms and remains in danger of departing for the right offer.

Incidentally, Newcastle United have some ambitious names, including Rafael Leao, on their list as potential transfer targets. But much will depend on their ability to raise cash. The summer window does provide a financial boost for all clubs to make their spending, but in Newcastle’s case, they may still have to sell to fund moves for new players.
