Nottingham Forest have reportedly asked Arsenal about signing Aaron Ramsdale before the winter window slams shut.

According to The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor, Nottingham Forest are in dire need of a new goalkeeper, and they have made approaches for plenty of shot-stoppers around the block, including Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale.

Nottingham Forest Want a Goalkeeper

Nottingham Forest are in a very tricky situation when it comes to goalkeepers. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has former Arsenal man Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos as options in between the sticks. But neither has done enough to stake a claim on the starting spot at the City Ground so far.

The USMNT international, for one, was to be blamed yet again when the Gunners squeezed past them earlier this week as he made a mess of Gabriel Jesus’s strike, which helped Arsenal come out on top narrowly.

As a result, Forest are now looking to sign a new goalkeeper on deadline day. They have made a bid for Koen Casteels and tried twice to sign Sam Johnstone from Crystal Palace. Another goalkeeper they have approached to sign today is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, as per The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor.

Aaron Ramsdale in a Pickle

Ramsdale was the number one option for Mikel Arteta at the Emirates after making the switch from Sheffield United for a fee worth around £30 million. He quickly displaced Bernd Leno with the gloves and had not looked back since, helping the side record two improved finishes in a row.

However, he has been displaced as Arsenal’s number one by summer signing David Raya this season. The 25-year-old has played just five Premier League games this season, with all but one of those being before the Spaniard’s debut.

The confidence of the former Bournemouth keeper has clearly taken a hit, and with his lack of involvement in the Gunners starting XI, he has been strongly linked with a move away from the club. From a financial standpoint, signing another goalkeeper does not make a lot of sense for Forest, with third-choice Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath also still at the club and FFP charges also bound to come into play.

However, should the Premier League club manage to lure a keeper of Ramsdale’s calibre before the window slams shut, that could be the difference between them staying up for another season instead of facing relegation back to the second tier.
