Conor Gallagher uninterested in joining Tottenham

Conor Gallagher has no interest in leaving Chelsea for Tottenham in the final days of the January window, despite Spurs’ pressure.

According to Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Tottenham have no chance of signing Conor Gallagher in the last days of the window as the midfielder has no interest in leaving Chelsea. The North Londoners have remained open to signing the 23-year-old midfielder, but he will stay at Stamford Bridge at least until the summer.

Conor Gallagher prefers Chelsea to stay

The Tottenham-Conor Gallagher speculation began last summer when the North Londoners reportedly approached very late in the transfer window. Chelsea had been looking to cash in on some of their homegrown stars and considered the 23-year-old a sellable option.

They have maintained their stance heading into the January market, as they have no other players to sell. Some reports suggested Chelsea wanted £50 million for Gallagher, but Tottenham were planning on a bid much lower than that valuation.

Spurs have remained interested and had planned on a last-ditch offer to fulfil their temptation to sign the 23-year-old Chelsea mainstay. The Blues had been open to doing business with Spurs overall, as they do not have a shortage of midfielders for the remainder of the season, where they are also only active in one competition and one cup final.

Gallagher had decided to stay at Chelsea, and Tottenham were destined to fail in this pursuit. Dean Jones insists the 23-year-old Chelsea mainstay has no interest in joining Spurs in the final days of the transfer window and will choose to remain at Stamford Bridge.

What next for Conor Gallagher?

Gallagher might have decided to stay at Chelsea, but that decision could diminish his value ahead of the summer window. The Blues will not mind a clearout of homegrown stars like the midfielder Trevoh Chalobah, Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja for suitable offers.

Gallagher will enter the final year of his deal, and no steps are taken towards extending his stay. Without assurances about the future, the 23-year-old Chelsea mainstay will not get drawn into committing to his future at Stamford Bridge.

Hence, there is a chance the English midfielder might leave Chelsea in the summer. He will have many more options then and might choose another destination than Tottenham, who are also expected to re-enter the race.
