Arsenal are alert to the situation of Martin Braithwaite, with the Espanyol striker representing a cheap and effective stop-gap solution.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal could consider a move for Espanyol forward Martin Braithwaite if Mikel Arteta feels the need to add before the month’s end. The Danish forward, 32, could move away for £5 million, and his 11-goal contributions make him a cheap and practical option for the Gunners to think about.

Arsenal to move for Martin Braithwaite?

Arsenal have been searching for a new striker, but considering the club’s recently adopted policy, they are unlikely to sign a player with advancing age. Yet, they remain linked with several options in the market as the January window draws to a close.

With a need for a new striker still looming large on Arteta’s head, there are chances that Arsenal may lean towards a stop-gap option to fill the void. There have been links to Callum Wilson, whom Newcastle United might look to sell owing to their concerns with FFP.

Now, a new option has emerged, one that Arsenal fans wouldn’t like, as Martin Braithwaite appears as a target. The 11-goal attacker, who has shone with Espanyol this season, could leave the club for as little as £5 million.

Hence, his goalscoring prowess and the low price point make him an effective stop-gap option for Arsenal to consider. However, Braithwaite also has interest from elsewhere, with Chelsea and Manchester United also being offered the chance to sign the Dane.

Arsenal to sign a big striker in the summer?

Arsenal are certainly not viewing the links to the likes of Braithwaite and Wilson as a pre-cursor for the future. In fact, one might fully expect Arteta to gun for a top-draw striker in the summer, one that would make a statement of intent in the market.

Victor Osimhen remains a target, while there’s intense competition for the Nigerian’s signature, with Chelsea also keen. There are other names like Ivan Toney and Dusan Vlahovic as part of Arsenal’s essential striker list, but Arteta might see the benefit in bringing someone like the Napoli superstar.

RB Leipzig’s Lios Openda is also a target after his superb start to the season in Germany. Overall, the Gunners are planning on bringing a big name forward next season to strengthen their attack and vastly improve their goalscoring prowess.
