La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly tracking the progress of 24-year-old Spanish full-back Sergi Cardona at UD Las Palmas.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sergi Cardona is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in the market for a left-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. They are keeping tabs on the progress of the 24-year-old UD Las Palmas defender.

Who is Sergi Cardona?

Sergi Cardona has come leaps and bounds since joining UD Las Palmas. The Spanish full-back went under the radar during his youth career before he graduated from the Gimnastic de Tarragona academy. But he has made considerable progress during his stint at the Gran Canarian club.

The 24-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for UD Las Palmas, chipping in with one goal and six assists. He has played a pivotal role in the club’s excellent 2023/24 campaign in La Liga, with a mid-table finish on the cards. Meanwhile, Cardona’s progress at the Gran Canarian club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs.

The report by Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sergi Cardona has become the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Italian journalist has also revealed that clubs from the top-five leagues have approached his representatives. That reigning La Liga champions have also contacted his agent.

Barcelona Want Sergi Cardona

Barcelona’s interest in Cardona is understandable, considering Alejandro Balde is the only recognised left-back in Xavi Hernandez’s squad. The Catalan giants have found the hard way how Balde’s absence can affect them. So, it behoves Barcelona to invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, recent reports have also linked Balde with a possible move away from Barcelona. Sergi Cardona has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. And with Barcelona contacting his agent, a move in the summer transfer window might be on the cards.

The 24-year-old Spanish full-back has entered the final six months of his contract. So, he will be available for a potential Bosman move, which should be attractive for Barcelona. It will be interesting to see if the Las Palmas defender joins the Blaugrana this summer.
