Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco have reportedly submitted an enquiry to Arsenal for 23-year-old Portuguese midfielder Fabio Vieira.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Fabio Vieira is the subject of interest from AS Monaco. The 23-year-old is not a regular for Arsenal, and clubs might pounce in the January transfer window. The Ligue 1 giants have approached Arsenal over a possible loan deal for the player.

Fabio Vieira and his Arsenal Travails

Fabio Vieira is a graduate of the FC Porto youth division. He spent his entire youth career in the Portuguese club’s academy before graduating to the first-team squad in June 2020. He subsequently grew in stature at FC Porto in the two seasons that followed before joining Arsenal in July 2022.

Arsenal shelled out a package worth €40 million to sign Vieira from FC Porto, with €35 million being the base fee. But he has been a backup option for Mikel Arteta in the last 18 months. That has also been the case this season, with Vieira managing only 507 minutes of game time across 14 appearances thus far, chipping in with two goals and four assists.

Fabio Vieira thus faces an uncertain future at Arsenal. With the Gunners in the market for a midfielder, his long-term prospects at the Emirates do not appear bright. Meanwhile, his stock remains high in the market, with AS Monaco keen on securing his services.

A Loan Move to Ligue 1 Beckons?

The report has claimed that the Ligue 1 giants are keen on signing Vieira in a loan deal until the end of the 2023/24 season. And they have submitted an enquiry to Arsenal over the possible arrangement. In addition, he is a target for another French club, with that outfit also approaching Arsenal for the 23-year-old.

The report claims that with Emile Smith Rowe back in contention to feature regularly, Vieira will not get many minutes. So, a loan deal in the second half of the 2023/24 season will be beneficial for him.

It is unclear if Vieira will become a regular for Arsenal after a loan stint in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco or another French club. But with the two outfits approaching Arsenal, the Portuguese midfielder might embark on a temporary stint away from the Emirates.
