Chelsea set to end interest in Jhon Duran

Chelsea have been linked with the move for the Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran in recent weeks.

However, a report from Ben Jacobs claims that Chelsea have now abandoned their pursuit of the player following an injury. The 20-year-old striker has picked up a hamstring injury and he will be unavailable for a few weeks.

It does not make sense for Chelsea to sign an injured player and therefore they might look at other options now.

Duran has struggled for regular game time at the West Midlands club and he needs to leave them in order to get his career back on track. A move to Chelsea could have been an exciting opportunity for him.

Although Chelsea have Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson at their disposal, both players have been underwhelming and Chelsea need upgrades now.

While there is no guarantee that Duran would have been an upgrade on both players, he would have been an exciting long term prospect.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decides to bring in any other striker before the January window closes. They have been offered the chance to sign Callum Wilson from Newcastle united.

The experienced striker could prove to be a quality short term acquisition and he is available for reasonable price of £18 million. He is a proven performer in the English top flight.

Chelsea have had a mediocre campaign by their standards so far and they will need to improve their squad in January in order to finish the season strongly and secure European qualification.

Meanwhile, Duran will be looking to get back from his injury in the coming months and force his way into Unai Emery’s first team plans. The 20-year-old is undoubtedly a talented player with a big future ahead of him and it remains to be seen how his situation unfolds at the West Midlands club.

Aston Villa are pushing for Champions League qualification and Ollie Watkins has been in spectacular form. Overtaking the England international to hold down a regular starting spot will be a near impossible challenge for the Colombian striker right now.
