Brighton have reportedly opened talks with Tottenham to loan Bryan Gil, who remains unwanted under Ange Postecoglou.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Bryan Gill could have emerged as a target for Brighton ahead of the last few days of the January window. The Seagulls are reportedly in talks for the 22-year-old Tottenham attacker and plan to take him on loan before this month’s deadline.
Brighton interested in Bryan Gil?
There were hardly any Premier League clubs keen on taking Bryan Gil, as the Spaniard has barely played in England since his move to Spurs a few years ago. He has had at least two loan spells back in Spain and has only garnered a few minutes in his time with the Spurs.
He has played a decent number of games this season, but since then, he has not featured much for Tottenham. Brighton are now interested in taking him on loan for the remainder of the season, with Robert De Zerbi probably eyeing him to replace Ansu Fati.
The Barcelona loanee remains sidelined with a severe injury, and his return date remains unknown. A move for Gil would make sense. Tottenham could also benefit from such a move, especially if the 22-year-old starts performing differently, adding to his transfer value.
The report also names Brentford as a suitor, but Brighton have seemingly opened talks about a loan move with Tottenham. Nothing seems to have been decided at this point, but there are chances the Seagulls might take the 22-year-old Tottenham attacker to the Amex Stadium.
Bryan Gil’s Tottenham future remains uncertain.
When joining from Sevilla, the 22-year-old Tottenham attacker arrived with significant promise, but soon it became clear that he was unsuitable for the Premier League. While the links with Brighton may have come as a surprise, this could be his last chance saloon to make a mark in England. Spurs had already planned to get rid of him at the earliest, but attacking injuries have probably kept him in check.
Some clubs in Spain are keen, including Real Sociedad and former side Sevilla. His style suits that of La Liga, and in the future, he could forge a promising career in one of those clubs. However, he does not suit Tottenham’s setup as things stand.
With attackers like Manor Solomon returning to action, Gil might soon find no game time under Postecoglou. Hence, he must take the chance afforded by Brighton or others to stay in the Premier League and try to forge a career here, but he may not be at Tottenham.
