Aston Villa set to step up interest in Nico Williams

Aston Villa will soon ramp up the efforts to sign Athletic Club Nico Williams, a target for Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona.

According to a report by Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Nico Williams is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans will soon intensify their efforts to sign the Spanish international. The Athletic Club attacker, whose release clause is worth £43 million, is also a target for Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

Who is Nico Williams?

Nico Williams has come leaps and bounds since joining Athletic Club from CA Osasuna over a decade ago. The 21-year-old has risen through the ranks at the Basque outfit and made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in April 2021. He has also broken into the Spanish national team.

The Spanish international has turned out over 100 times thus far for Athletic Club, chipping in with 17 goals and 18 assists. Williams is also enjoying a solid 2023/24 campaign, finding the back of the net five times and providing nine assists in 22 outings. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, alerting top clubs like Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and Barcelona.

A Man in Demand

Aston Villa’s interest in Nico Williams is understandable, with Unai Emery in the market for an offensive reinforcement. Bertrand Traore faces an uncertain future at Villa Park, meaning Aston Villa can do with an attacker. Recent reports have also claimed that the Spaniard is intrigued by the project at the West Midlands club.

As for Barcelona, amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Raphinha and Ferran Torres, the Blaugrana can do with a young attacker. So, Williams is a viable target for Barcelona. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool are also vying for the youngster’s signature, with his release clause of £43 million making him an attractive target.

Arsenal can do with more competition for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, with the duo proving inconsistent this season. Meanwhile, Liverpool might need a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian international leaves in the summer transfer window. But Aston Villa will soon ramp up the efforts to sign the 21-year-old.

The Spanish international is one of the most highly sought-after attackers in Spain. With Aston Villa ready to step up the interest in Nico Williams, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona can beat the Villans.
