Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major blow in their pursuit of the 24-year-old Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
According to a report by Corriere della Sera, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on reinforcing their midfield in the ongoing transfer window and they had their eyes on Atalanta’s Ederseon. But, it seems they have suffered a blow as the Italian club are not ready to negotiate his departure in the ongoing month.
Ederson left Brazil to join Italian club Salernitana in the winter of 2022. In the following six months, he managed to prove himself in the Italian top flight and earned a move to Bologna. Since making the move in the summer of 2022, the 24-year-old has featured in a total of 64 matches and has contributed towards nine goals.
Seven of those goal contributions have come in the ongoing season. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed and there are clubs interested in his services. Despite him having a deal with the Italian club that runs until the summer of 2026, clubs are willing to prise him away.
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs that are in desperate need of reinforcement. They started off the new season in fine fashion and were top of the table in the initial months. But, a lot has changed over time because of injuries and lack of depth in the North London club’s first-team squad.
The centre of the park is one of the areas that Ange Postecoglou wants to bolster. The Australian boss wants to bring in a new versatile midfielder who can steady the ship for now and also help them in the long run. They feel Ederson is the perfect fit for them as he will add depth as well allow add quality.
But, they will still find it difficult to strike a deal with the Italian club. Atalanta are quite clear about the fact that they won’t negotiate the departure of any of their top players.
They have a real shot at finishing in a Champions League spot and will be doing it their all to keep at their starts at least until the end of the season. As a result, they will block any potential offer for the services of the 24-year-old.
