Arsenal plotting summer move for Victor Osimhen

Arsenal could plot a big move for Victor Osimhen in the summer and battle London rivals Chelsea for the Napoli star’s signature.

According to Calcio Napoli 24, Arsenal are firmly in the race for Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer window. The Gunners could turn to the Nigerian and make him their new No.9, although they face tough competition from Chelsea for the 25-year-old striker.

Arsenal plot Victor Osimhen move

It’s been an indifferent season for Victor Osimhen at Napoli compared to the previous one when he let them win the Serie A after a 33-year wait. This time around, the club are languishing in the 9th spot after the latest rounds, and the Nigerian is at the AFCON, helping his nation in the continental championship.

There were heavy rumours that Osimhen sought an imminent exit after a fallout with the club, although he has since signed a new deal. Those fresh terms came with a release clause believed in the region of €120 million, which Napoli will expect suitors to pay in full.

Arsenal have not firmed themselves in the race for the 25-year-old striker, with Mikel Arteta identifying the Niogerian as the man to improve his squad. The Gunners have seen links to other names like Ivan Toney and Dusan Vlahovic leading up to the January window, but they have reportedly set aside enormous funds for Osimhem.

Hence, it would come as no surprise if the Gunners end up matching his release clause and take the striker to the Emirates. However, standing between them and the Nigerian striker are Chelsea, who are reportedly willing to pay more to sign the 25-year-old striker, which would let them structure a deal with Napoli.

Arsenal and Chelsea battle for Osimhen

Many reports have reiterated Chelsea’s strong interest in Osimhen, as the Blues are keen on bringing a big-name striker next. They, too, have other targets, but it appears the Napoli star features on top of their shortlist.

Osimhen recently commented he had decided on his future, meaning things are maturing in the background ahead of the summer window. The chances of him leaving Napoli this month are non-existent, as more clubs could join the hunt for the 25-year-old striker during the summer.

Arsenal could make a big splash for the striker and may have the advantage of Champions League football on their hands. Chelsea are currently struggling, and there are doubts about whether they will make it into European football at all, which may prove problematic in chasing a striker like Osimhen.
