Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign 36-year-old French striker Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Karim Benzema faces an uncertain future at Al-Ittihad. Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in signing the French striker. And the Premier League heavyweights have opened talks to sign him from the Saudi Pro League champions.

Karim Benzema in Saudi Arabia: The Story So Far

Karim Benzema has not been a happy camper since joining Al-Ittihad from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. The 36-year-old sent shockwaves across the world when he decided to end his stint with Los Blancos to embrace the Saudi Pro League juggernaut. And while he has been among the goals, he has been a frustrated figure in Jeddah.

The 36-year-old has contributed to 17 goals in 20 appearances thus far this season. The player has found the back of the net 12 times while providing five assists. But Benzema’s long-term future in Saudi Arabia is uncertain, as he is eager to return to Europe.

In addition, Karim Benzema has invited controversy after failing to show up for a training camp in Dubai. Reports have claimed that Marcelo Gallardo wants Al-Ittihad to sell the veteran striker. Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid captain does not have a shortage of suitors, with Arsenal and Manchester United among his prospective suitors.

Premier League Calling?

Arsenal and Manchester United being interested in securing Benzema’s services is surprising. While the two clubs can do with a prolific striker, signing a veteran on the wane will be a backward step. Nonetheless, the two Premier League heavyweights remain keen on landing him.

The report by MARCA has claimed that Arsenal and Manchester United have opened talks to sign Karim Benzema. The two Premier League clubs have approached the player’s entourage and Al-Ittihad to initiate the discussions. In addition, other clubs are also interested in bringing him back to Europe.

Recent reports have claimed that Benzema wants to rejoin Real Madrid if he returns to Europe. But Los Blancos might not be interested to re-sign the French striker. So, it will be interesting to see where he lands if he leaves Al-Ittihad in the January transfer window.

Arsenal would not pay more than £6 million due to his age and wage demand. They may get 6 months of work out of him, but not a lot more at his age in this fast demanding premier league.
