Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic are keen on having the 25-year-old Liverpool shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher in their ranks.
According to a report by Football Insider, Celtic have been on the lookout for a new shot-stopper of late and Caoimhin Kelleher is one of the names on their radar. The Scottish club are looking to sign someone who can take over from Joe Hart starting next season and the 25-year-old seems to be a perfect fit.
Kelleher joined the Liverpool youth ranks in the summer of 2015. He has since come up the ranks and was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2019. While his game time has increased over the years and Jurgen Klopp highly values him, he is unlikely to be their number one any time soon.
Alisson Becker has been doing wonders for Liverpool over the years and he still has quite a few years left in him. The Irish international is well aware of the fact that he will only have limited game time at the Merseyside club. As a result, he wants to part ways next summer in search of regular first-team football.
While reports earlier suggested that the Reds are not ready to negotiate his departure anytime soon, they are ready to let him leave in the ongoing window if a club is willing to pay around £20 million.
Celtic would love to have him in their ranks now as he will be a big boost for their title hopes but they can’t afford to pay that big a fee at this stage.
As a result, the Scottish club will wait until the end of the season before making a move for the 25-year-old. Brendan Rodgers is in desperate need of a new goalkeeper as Joe Hart’s contract runs out in the summer and he won’t be penning down a new deal.
Celtic feel Kellher could be an ideal replacement as he has showcased his quality from time to time and they are ready to push for him to replace Hart in between the sticks.
