Liverpool are unwilling to sell Caoimhin Kelleher this January
According to Football Insider, Premier League giants Liverpool are unwilling to part ways with goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the ongoing January transfer window.
Alisson Becker is the undisputed number one on Merseyside and is arguably the best shot-stopper in world football. More so, given his consistency and ability to win games for the Reds, the goalkeeping pecking order is more or less settled at Anfield.
Keller might be the second choice but has been afforded games in Cup competitions. He famously starred in the Reds’ Carabao Cup triumph in 2022. He continues to get the nod as the Merseysiders chase yet another League Cup this season.
At 25, Kelleher should be playing regularly but his chances of displacing Alisson when the latter is fit is remote. There is plenty of interest elsewhere with the likes of Celtic keen. However, any hopes they had of landing Keller this month is moot.
The shot-stopper’s contract at Anfield runs until 2026, meaning the Reds have leeway when it comes to negotiations. Despite Adrian’s presence, there is little doubt on Merseyside that Keller is the stand-in for Alisson.
Jurgen Klopp also has a high opinion of the 25-year-old and would like to retain his services. With another League Cup final and a solid run in the UEFA Europa League potentially on the horizon. Kelleher can be hopeful of not just securing more game time this season but also more silverware.
Whether that will change in the summer remains to be seen. ut for now, Keller is not going anywhere as the Reds attempt to put together yet another sensational campaign rife with trophies. Fighting on all fronts is not easy and Jurgen Klopp will need a strong roster with enough depth.
With the Reds unlikely to bring in reinforcements this month, it is imperative that they don’t lose their reliable players already at Anfield. For now, Kelleher’s Liverpool journey is far from over.
