Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United could intensify their pursuit of the 24-year-old Arsenal target Martin Zubimendi.
According to Dean Jones via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are looking to bring in a new midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. The Red Devils are interested in the services of Martin Zubimendi and could step up their interest in the next few days.
Zubimendi has been at Real Sociedad since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at some pace and made it to their first team in the summer of 2020. The 24-year-old has since gone from strength to strength and is currently one of the mainstays of the team.
In the ongoing season, the defensive midfielder has featured in 29 matches and he also has five goal contributions to his name. He has been a consistent performer and that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Arsenal and Manchester United are two clubs that have been linked with the Spanish international for a while now.
The Gunners might have spent big on Declan Rice in the summer but their boss Mikel Arteta is still keen on having Zubimendi in his ranks. Arteta prefers playing a double pivot in the centre of the park and the duo could form a great partnership.
But, the north London club will face a tough competition from Manchester United. The Red Devils haven’t had the best of times in the ongoing season. While injuries have made life difficult for them, it is pretty clear that they do need reinforcement.
According to Jones, one of the areas that they want to bolster in the ongoing window is the midfield. Erik ten Hag is not that satisfied with Casemiro’s performances and with the Brazilian in the final phase of his career, they do need someone who can replace him.
Zubimendi is one of the names on their radar and they feel he could be a perfect fit. As a result, they are willing to step up their interest. The Red Devils have already established contacts with the player’s representatives and they are ready to pay his release clause which is worth £52 million, a fee that seems to be a bargain given his recent performances.
