La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid have reportedly sealed the agreement to sign 19-year-old Puerto Rican prodigy Jeremy de Leon.

According to reputed Spanish journalist Jorge C Picon, Jeremy de Leon is the next addition to the Real Madrid Castilla squad. Valencia and Villarreal were also keen on signing the 19-year-old North American attacking prodigy. But the Merengues have sealed the agreement to sign the Castellon wonderkid, who had his heart set on joining them.

Who is Jeremy de Leon?

We rarely see prodigies from Puerto Rico capture the limelight, with the North American territory not producing many prospects. But that is not the case with Jeremy de Leon, who has taken age-group football by storm in Spain. He arrived in the country as a budding teenager and has gone from strength to strength at CD Castellon.

But the youngster’s contract situation has hampered him this season, with Castellon using him sporadically due to his refusal to sign a new deal. The 19-year-old has managed only 452 minutes of game time thus far this term, providing one assist in 14 outings. However, his stock remains high, with several well-known La Liga clubs showing interest in him.

Valencia and Villarreal have been keen on signing the North American attacking prodigy. The two clubs submitted enquiries for the teenage sensation and wanted him on board. But once Real Madrid came calling, Jeremy de Leon had his heart set on moving to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid Calling

The Merengues are renowned for constantly scouring the market for highly-rated prospects. Recent reports have linked them with Brazilian wonderkid Kaua Elias. In addition, Endrick will arrive from Palmeiras in the summer transfer window. While those prodigies will likely bolster the first-team squad, Real Madrid also wanted to reinforce the reserve team.

Raul Gonzalez will likely see Peter join Valencia. So, Real Madrid wanted an offensive reinforcement in the January transfer window. They have now sealed an agreement with CD Castellon to sign Jeremy de Leon. The 19-year-old North American attacking prodigy will arrive in Madrid in the next few days.

The teenage prospect will thus become the second Puerto Rican to wear the Real Madrid white after Eduardo Ordonez, who did so in the 1926/27 season. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the youngster once he starts turning out for Real Madrid Castilla.
