Chelsea recall midfielder Cesare Casadei from his loan

Chelsea have recalled their 21-year-old Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei from his loan spell at Leicester City.

Mauricio Pochettino was keen on having Cesare Casadei in his ranks for the second half of the season and as a result, Chelsea have recalled the 21-year-old from his loan spell at Championship side Leicester City. The Blues have made the return of the Italian midfielder official.

Casadei was a part of the Inter Milan youth ranks before making a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2022. After six months at the club, they decided to send him out on loan at Reading for the second half of the 2022-23 season.

While the 21-year-old travelled with the first team squad to the United States for pre-season in the summer, Pochettino was not really confident that he would be of much help for the 2023-24 season. As a result, they decided to send him out on loan to Leicester.

The Foxes were relegated to the Championship after a poor outing last season. They were looking to bolster their squad and push for an immediate return. Leicester managed to land the Italian youth international at the club and he went on to do wonders for them over the next six months.

He featured in a total of 25 matches for the Foxes and contributed towards five goals. Despite only getting 1,112 minutes of footballing action, Casadei managed to have a big impact and he has surely played his part in Leicester dominating the Championship and comfortably sitting at the top of the points table.

But, they will now have to carry on without the 21-year-old as Chelsea have recalled him. The Blue are going through an injury crisis in the centre of the park and wanted to add depth. His performances while out on loan have given Pochettino the confidence that the Italian youth international is ready to be a part of their first team.

Now, that the versatile midfielder has returned to his parent club, it will be interesting to see how many minutes of first-team action he gets over the next six months and if he is able to deliver similar performances as he did while on loan at Leicester.
