Caoimhin Kelleher ready to leave Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher could leave Liverpool in the summer in search of regular football, as the Reds might have identified a replacement.

According to Football Insider, Caoimhin Kelleher could quit Liverpool in the summer to become a first-choice keeper elsewhere. Celtic are one of the sides keen, as the Reds might have already identified a replacement option.

Caoimhin Kelleher to quit Liverpool?

There are a lot of stories lately pointing towards Caoimhin Kelleher’s ucertain future at Liverpool. The Irish international has played mainly as a backup to Alisson Becker, and that might remain the case for the foreseeable future.

The 25-year-old has been superb when called up to the starting lineup, as Jurgen Klopp has trusted him 11 times this season. Most of Kelleher’s appearances have come in the Europa League, while he also featured between the sticks, with Alisson missing two Premier League games.

As per a previous report, Liverpool were open to a sale if they could get £20 million or more for the Irish star, although the chances of that seem unlikely now. On the other hand, Klopp does consider him an essential part of his system and may want to keep him.

Liverpool may not sell Kelleher in January but might contemplate offers in the summer. A few Premier League sides were interested in the summer, but as things stand, Celtic are keen and view him as a replacement for Joe Hart. The 25-year-old Kelleher feels he has come to a point where he needs to play as a first choice elsewhere and harbours ambitions to become Ireland’s No.1 choice ahead of Gavin Bazunu.

Liverpool identify Kelleher’s replacement

Liverpool are content with Kelleher’s performances when he plays but might consider allowing the keeper to leave in the summer. They have already identified Anthony Patterson as a potential replacement for the 25-year-old second-choice keeper.

Arsenal are also interested in Patterson, who they view as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who might depart in the summer after losing his place to David Raya. The Sunderland keeper will have plenty of choices in the summer, as he looks like a promising prospect ready to take on the big league.

As for Kelleher, he might get his big wish to become the undisputed choice at a different club. He has done a fantastic job at Liverpool under immense pressure, although Klopp may not look at the 25-year-old ahead of current first choice Alisson.
