Arsenal are reportedly keen on 23-year-old Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, who is on the radar of Liverpool as well.
According to HITC, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Anthony Patterson. But it would be quite surprising if they decided to make a move for him in the summer. The 23-year-old Sunderland goalkeeper is also a target for Liverpool.

Anthony Patterson has done quite well for the Black Cats this season. So, it is no surprise that the top English clubs are monitoring him. However, Arsenal already have two top-class goalkeepers in David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale. Signing another goalkeeper would not make any sense for the North London club. They have other priorities they need to address in the transfer market.
With that said, Ramsdale has been linked with a move away from Arsenal because of a lack of regular playing time. If Arsenal decide to cash in on the English goalkeeper, they could bring in Anthony Patterson as his long-term replacement.
The 23-year-old Sunderland goalkeeper needs to play regularly to continue his development. So, a move to Arsenal or Liverpool might not be ideal for him He should look to join a club where he will play regularly, and the two Premier League clubs will not be able to provide him with that opportunity.
At Liverpool, he will be a replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, who is expected to leave the club this summer. The Republic of Ireland international needs to play regularly, and he has been linked with Celtic and Brentford. Liverpool will have to replace their deputy goalkeeper adequately. So, they have identified Patterson as a potential target.
The opportunity to join clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool can be hard to turn down for most players. But the 23-year-old should focus on his own development and he must look to join a club where he will be the first choice goalkeeper.
He will have plenty of opportunities to play for the big clubs in future, if he manages to improve as a player and fulfil his potential in the coming seasons. Joining a big club as the second choice goalkeeper now would hinder his development.
