La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly among the leaders to sign 17-year-old Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Lucas Bergvall is the subject of interest from Barcelona. And the reigning La Liga champions are among the favourites to sign the 17-year-old. The Djurgardens IF midfield sensation is also a target for several Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Rise of Lucas Bergvall

Lucas Bergvall has made considerable progress since joining Djurgardens IF in February 2023 from IF Brommapojkarna. A graduate of the Brommapojkarna youth division, the Swede was excellent in age-group football in his homeland. But he is already a regular in the first-team picture for Djurgardens.

The 17-year-old has turned out 29 times thus far for Djurgardens IF, chipping in with three goals and one assist. He has also broken into the Swedish national team, making his debut this month. Meanwhile, Bergvall’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

A Player in Demand

The latest reports have linked Lucas Bergvall with many Premier League bigwigs, including Manchester United. The Swedish international is also a target for many Bundesliga clubs, like Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, he features on the radar of reigning La Liga champions Barcelona.

Recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants are getting serious about signing the 17-year-old midfielder. Barcelona’s interest in Bergvall is understandable, as he fits into the youth-centric project under Xavi Hernandez. The youngster can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park alongside Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong.

The German journalist has claimed that the Eagles have presented their project to Bergvall and intend to integrate him into the first-team squad straightaway. They are also ready to pay €9 million to sign the teenage prodigy. But the youngster has yet to make his decision, meaning Barcelona will have the chance to sign him.
