Fulham have entered the race for Trevoh Chalobah and are already working on a deal to sign him on a six-month loan deal.
Florian Plettenberg insists Fulham are working on a deal to sign Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah on a six-month loan deal. The 24-year-old is out of favour at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues eager to sell in order to boost their FFP standing, although the Cottagers are only offering a loan with a buy option.
Fulham intensity efforts for Trevoh Chalobah
Marco Silva has been angling a move for a new central defender in this window and might have stumbled upon Trevoh Chalobah’s availability. The Cottagers might offer the 24-year-old Chelsea utility man a way out of Stamford Bridge and into a favoured vicinity around London, albeit on a temporary basis.
Fulham could lose defender Tosin Adarabioyo this month owing to his contractual stand-off. If he leaves, Silva would want a replacement in place and does not want to look much beyond Chalobah. The 24-year-old utility man could be sold to boost Chelsea’s FFP standings, mainly due to his homegrown status.
Fulham are interested in signing him on a six-month loan deal as they are currently holding talks with Chelsea to find an agreement. The Blues would have ideally liked to sell him outright to a reasonable bidder but could accept a loan deal with a buy option, something the Cottagers are willing to offer.
Chelsea will likely include the buy option at around £20-25 million, which is the fee they were seeking had Chalobah left on a permanent basis. Whether Fulham agrees to those terms remains the question, but both the Cottagers and the 24-year-old could see this as a favourable deal in familiar surroundings.
Chelsea’s race with FFP
Chelsea have made a massive splash since their new owners took over the club 18 months ago. In that period, the Blues have spent north of a billion pounds and could fall under the FFP scanner, which could lead to consequences.
They have made quite a few sales in recent windows, most notably that of Mason Mount for £55 million-plus, with the fees coming in as pure profit owing to his homegrown status. There’s considerable interest in Chalobah, meaning they will hope to make a good profit off the sale of another academy talent.
Similarly, they are in talks with Tottenham for the sale of Conor Gallagher as they look to make enough profits to balance their books and probably even bring more signings this month. Chelsea are keen on a striker and probably a new defender before this month’s window shuts.
