Barcelona decided against signing 33-year-old England international Jordan Henderson, who is now all set to join Ajax.

According to a report by Sport, Jordan Henderson is all set to return to Europe after joining the Saudi Pro League in the summer. The 33-year-old former Liverpool captain will soon complete a move to Ajax. But, even before negotiations with Ajax started, he had offered himself to Barcelona.

Jordan Henderson and his Saudi Arabian Misery

Jordan Henderson was at Liverpool for 12 long years. His qualities on and off the pitch resulted in him getting the armband after Steven Gerrard’s departure. Post that, the Reds saw a lot of success under the leadership of the 33-year-old.

While he could have carried on at the Merseyside club, Henderson decided to part ways and join Al-Ettifaq. The England international is being paid a fortune to play in the Middle East. But, it seems he is not happy with the choice that he made six months back.

Jordan Henderson Wants European Return

The 33-year-old did not want to carry on playing in the Saudi Pro League, and his representatives offered him to Barcelona a few weeks back. There were reports that suggested that the Catalan giants were seeking reinforcement in the centre of the park in January. And with Gavi out injured, it seemed a real possibility.

As a result, his agents contacted the Spanish giants to discuss the possibility of a deal. Joan Laporta and his men evaluated the offer and decided to turn it down. The main reason was that Barcelona decided to use the ‘fair play’ that existed to register Vitor Roque in January.

Apart from that, the two parties were not on the same page as Barcelona were only willing to offer a six-month deal, while Jordan Henderson was looking for more than that. Once the Catalan giants were no longer in the picture, Ajax started making moves.

The Dutch club wanted to bolster their midfield in the ongoing window, and they feel the experience of Henderson can do wonders for them. Meanwhile, the former Liverpool captain is keen on joining Ajax, and he is all set to terminate his contract to fulfil his desire to return to Europe.
