Arsenal, Barcelona in the race to sign Xavi Simons

Arsenal and Barcelona are both keen on acquiring the services of 20-year-old Paris Saint-Germain sensation Xavi Simons.

According to Sport BILD via SportWitness, Arsenal and Barcelona would both love to have Xavi Simons in their ranks. The 20-year-old sensation has been on fire in the ongoing season and his impressive performances have attracted the giants of European football.

Simons was a part of Barcelona’s famous youth academy La Masia before he left them and joined Paris Saint-Germain’s youth ranks in the summer of 2019. He went up the ranks and made it to their first team at the start of 2022.

After a sensational loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season, he joined RB Leipzig at the start of the 2023-24 season. So far, he has been doing wonders for them. In his 26 appearances for the German club, the 20-year-old has contributed towards 15 goals. His red-hot form and the ability to feature on both flanks as well as an attacking midfielder has resulted in clubs monitoring his situation very closely.

Leipzig are very happy with his performances and would love to extend his loan spell until the summer of 2025. But, PSG are not in a hurry to make any decision regarding the future of Simons as they are well aware of the interest in him from the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal.

The Catalan giants would love to re-sign their youth product. Things might not have worked out the first time but they are willing to try again because they are well aware of the potential of the 20-year-old.

As far as Arsenal are concerned, they were interested in Simons during the summer and their interest is still intact. His versatility and his age make him a perfect fit for the Gunners project.

Neither of the clubs have made a move yet because they await PSG’s final decision on the future of the 20-year-old. They want to know whether they decide to keep him, sell him or extend his loan stay at Leipzig. Either way, Arsenal will remain in the picture and might end up making a move for the PSG midfielder next summer.
