Brentford have an agreement in place with Tottenham Hotspur to sign their 27-year-old full-back Sergio Reguilon on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Brentford will soon complete the signing of Sergio Reguilon on a short loan until the end of the season. The Bees wanted to reinforce their backline in the ongoing transfer window, and they have managed to strike a deal with Tottenham Hotspur.
Sergio Reguilon Not in Ange Postecoglou’s Plans
Reguilon is surplus to requirements at the London club, which is why he was sent out on loan to Manchester United for the first half of the season. The Red Devils suffered a major blow as Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia picked up injuries at the very start of the season.
Their absence forced Manchester United to sign the 27-year-old on loan, and he featured in 12 matches for them. But with Shaw back fit and Malacia soon to return, they decided that Reguilon was no longer needed. As a result, he returned to his parent club.
But, Ange Postecoglou cannot guarantee him sufficient game time. As a result, Spurs have been looking for a potential destination for the 27-year-old. Meanwhile, Brentford have been keen on having him in their ranks. The Bees want to bolster their defence as they look to end their losing streak and fight for survival in the Premier League.
Brentford Want Sergio Reguilon
With Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey, Reguilon’s arrival will be a major boost. Not only will he cover for their absence, but his experience could be vital for them as they hope to stay in the English top flight.
Brentford were in talks with Tottenham and have now managed to reach an agreement with them for the transfer of the Spanish full-back. According to Romano, the final green light has arrived as both clubs have a verbal agreement in place.
It will be a straightforward loan deal that will see the 27-year-old feature for the Bees for the next six months. There is no buy clause available which means he will be back at Spurs after the season ends. Sergio Reguilon will undergo his medical today and post that, we will have an official confirmation of the transfer.
