They have been overly reliant on him and they need another specialist defensive midfielder so that Pep Guardiola can rotate his players and keep them fresh.
Guardiola will know all about the midfielder having worked with him during their time together at the German club, and Manchester City have been tracking him for a couple of seasons. The midfielder is at the peak of his powers right now and Manchester City would do well to secure his signature.

He has the experience, mentality and the ability to play for an elite club like Manchester City and he would certainly improve them in the middle of of the park.
