Liverpool will be a serious competitor to Real Madrid in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this year.
According to a report by French outlet Le Parisien, Kylian Mbappe is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have emerged as serious contenders for the French attacker’s signature. The Paris Saint-Germain talisman is also a target for Real Madrid, while Les Parisiens are hopeful of keeping hold of him.
The Rise of Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe has been one of the best players in the world since breaking onto the scene at AS Monaco in the 2016/17 season. The 25-year-old came out of nowhere to become a pivotal figure for the principality outfit, guiding them to the Ligue 1 title in his debut campaign. But his spell at AS Monaco ended in 2017, with Paris Saint-Germain beating the competition to his signature.
The Frenchman has won nearly every trophy at the club and international levels, including the FIFA World Cup. But success in Europe has eluded him thus far. Meanwhile, Mbappe’s future was uncertain in the summer transfer window after he announced his decision to run down his PSG contract. But the two parties have made up, with the player amassing 21 goals and two assists in 22 outings this term.
PSG, Real Madrid, or Liverpool: What Will it Be for Mbappe?
With the World Cup winner yet to commit his future to PSG, several high-profile clubs have set their sights on him. These include long-term suitors Real Madrid and Liverpool. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 champions have not given up hope of keeping hold of the French international.
Real Madrid considering securing Mbappe’s services in the summer transfer window. But as had been the case on previous occasions, they could not sign him. While interest in the Frenchman remains, they will not keep pining for him until the final days of the 2024 summer transfer window and have a deadline to convince him.
As for Liverpool, the Reds have also held an interest in the 25-year-old for a long time. But they have never emerged as serious competitors to Real Madrid for his signature. However, the report has claimed that Liverpool will be in contention to land Mbappe this year.
But with PSG hopeful of retaining Mbappe’s services, another false dawn might be on the cards for his suitors. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool or Real Madrid can secure his signature later this year in the summer transfer window.
