La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly prepared to offer a part-exchange deal to sign 26-year-old Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Aleix Garcia is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 26-year-old will cost around €20 million, a sum the Blaugrana cannot afford. So, the reigning La Liga champions are ready to offer a part-exchange deal to sign the Girona midfield powerhouse.

The Rise of Aleix Garcia

Aleix Garcia has come leaps and bounds since joining Girona from SD Eibar in July 2021. The Spanish international had been floundering until then, with his spell with Manchester City not working. But he has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for Girona while breaking into his national team this year.

The 26-year-old has been arguably the best player in La Liga this season, masterminding Girona’s rise to the top of La Liga. While the Red and Whites are behind Real Madrid on goal difference, they are in contention to win the title. And Garcia has chipped in with three goals and four assists in 18 appearances thus far.

Garcia’s progress at Girona FC has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs. Many La Liga heavyweights are keen on prising him away from the Catalan club next year. One of them will be Barcelona, with the Blaugrana scouring the market for a midfield reinforcement.

Barcelona Calling?

Barcelona signed two midfielders in the summer transfer window, with Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu arriving on low-cost operations. But both midfielders are on the wrong side of 30 and will be short-term solutions for Barcelona. So, the Catalan giants are again in the market for a midfielder, with Romeu facing an uncertain future at the club.

Aleix Garcia is a viable target for the Blaugrana heading into 2024. The 26-year-old has arguably been the best player in La Liga this season. So, he can instantly elevate the levels of the Barcelona midfield. And the reigning La Liga champions are ready to offer a part-exchange deal to sign the Spaniard as they cannot afford his price tag of €20 million.

The report mentions three players who might be up for grabs for Girona. These are Romeu, Eric Garcia, and Pablo Torre. While Romeu’s future remains uncertain, recent reports have claimed that Garcia might permanently leave Barcelona next summer, with Girona a likely destination. So, it will be interesting to see if a part-exchange deal for Aleix Garcia sees the light of day.
