Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for 25-year-old in-form Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Viktor Gyokeres has been outstanding for Sporting CP since joining them this past summer, managing 18 goals and seven assists to his name across all competitions this season. A report by Correio de Manha via Sport Witness has claimed that Manchester United have now entered the race for his signature.
Viktor Gyokeres in Demand
The former Coventry City striker could be tempted to join a big club like Manchester United. But the Red Devils will have to pay a premium for him. He has a €100 million release clause in his contract, and Sporting CP are unlikely to let him leave for a knockdown price.
The Swede signed a long-term contract with Sporting when he arrived from Coventry City, and they are under no pressure to cash in on him. Manchester United will have to satisfy their €100 million demands in order to sign the sign striker.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres has recently revealed that he is quite happy at his new club. So, it is fair to assume that he is unlikely to push for an exit. He is a target for Arsenal and Chelsea as well. It will come down to whether Manchester United are prepared to pay the exit clause.
Manchester United Need a Striker
€100 million is a lot of money for someone who is largely unproven at the highest level. He has been outstanding for Sporting CP but is yet to prove himself consistently in an elite competition like the UEFA Champions League. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks.
It is no secret that Manchester United need to sign a quality striker. Marcus Rashford has not been at his best this season, while summer signing Rasmus Hojlund is still adapting to English football.
Manchester United need a reliable goalscorer in January, and they have been linked with a move for Bundesliga star Serhou Guirassy as well. Guirassy is set to cost a lot less because of a €15 million release clause and his contract, and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils decide to sign him instead of the Swedish forward.
