Manchester City have been linked with a move for the Argentine midfielder Claudio Echeverri for a while.
The Premier League side are now closing in on the capture of the South American prodigy according to journalist Gaston Edul.
Echeverri has been linked with other European clubs as well and Manchester City will be delighted to have won the race for his signature.
The Premier League outfit will have been impressed with his performances in the youth World Cup and he has the potential to develop into a superstar with the right coaching in the near future.
Manchester City have decided to pay the €25 million release clause for the midfielder and he will spend another year with River Plate. The two parties are now sorting out the final formalities of the transfer and the documents are being exchanged between the two clubs.

The 17-year-old midfielder is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him and it remains to be seen whether Manchester City can nurture him into a top-class first-team prospect.
The Premier League champions have a proven track record when it comes to competing for major trophies and the Argentine midfielder will be delighted to have joined one of the biggest clubs in the world. In addition to that, the opportunity to play for Pep Guardiola can be hard to turn down. The Spanish manager is arguably the best of his generation and he could help the Argentine midfielder fulfil his tremendous potential.
For now, staying at River Plate for another year would be ideal for the midfielder’s development. He would get to experience first-team action on a continuous basis and it will accelerate his development.
