Manchester City advancing move to sign Claudio Echeverri

Manchester City are closing in on signing Claudio Echeverri from River Plate in a deal in excess of €20 million, with rivals set to lose out.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are advancing their efforts to sign Claudio Echeverri from River Plate after a fresh round of talks. The 17-year-old had plenty of interest from elsewhere, including Chelsea. But the Premier League champions are now closing in on his signature for a fee in excess of €20 million.

Manchester City set to win Claudio Echeverri race?

Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City recruitment staff have done fantastic business in Europe and overseas. They have enjoyed enormous success in the transfer business, often getting their targets right.

Last year, they landed Julian Alvarez, who has become a fan favourite since his arrival. Still, they initially agreed on a deal for the Argentine international in January 2022. They allowed the World Cup winner to remain on loan at River Plate and could structure a similar agreement for Claudio Echeverri.

Manchester City have remained optimistic about Echeverri for a few weeks now, having established their interest after an intense evaluation period. Many other big clubs are also hunting for the teenage sensation from River Plate. But City are set to win the race.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have advanced talks recently and are now closing in on signing the 17-year-old for a fee in excess of €20 million. Further details could come from the Italian journalist, but the treble winners are clear favourites for now.

Chelsea set to lose out on Echeverri

If Manchester City were signing Echeverri for a fee of €20 million, it would not have been a problem for Chelsea to match or even beat it. The Blues have involved themselves in many young singings over the past 18 months and will continue doing similar business.

Chelsea held a significant interest in Echeverri but lost out to Manchester City in the race. The youngster might have preferred to join Guardiola’s side, probably due to Alvarez’s enormous success since joining the Cityzens. Many other clubs also held an interest. But now, Manchester City will pay what is required and land another promising youngster from Argentina.
