Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to fork out €100 million to sign Barcelona mainstay Ronald Araujo, a target for Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Ronald Araujo is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions are prepared to pay €100 million to sign the Barcelona mainstay. The 24-year-old is also a target for Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

The Rise of Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo has become one of the best defenders in the world since joining Barcelona. A graduate of the CA Rentistas youth division, the Uruguayan international rose to prominence during his short stint with Boston River. That earned him a move to Barcelona, and he has not looked back since then.

The 24-year-old established a foothold in the Barcelona first team in the 2020/21 season and has become a mainstay at the back since then. Araujo has turned out 129 times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with eight goals and three assists. He has also become one of the four captains for Barcelona this season.

Araujo’s progress since joining Barcelona has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs. Several Premier League bigwigs, including Manchester United, have been keen on signing him for a long time. Meanwhile, the Barcelona defender is also a target for Bayern Munich.

European Bigwigs Keen on Araujo

The report has claimed that the Bundesliga champions are willing to fork out €100 million to sign Ronald Araujo. The current centre-backs at Bayern Munich have struggled to consistently deliver the goods at the back. So, it is hardly surprising that Bayern will enter the January transfer window for a central defender. Araujo is thus a viable target for Die Roten.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are scouring the market for a centre-back who can be Lisandro Martinez’s long-term partner. With Raphael Varane facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Manchester United will need a replacement. Araujo has thus emerged on Manchester United’s radar.

But Manchester United might have the financial muscle to match Bayern Munich’s desired bid worth €100 million. Meanwhile, Barcelona might not entertain an offer worth €100 million despite the never-ending financial woes. They are ready to open talks over a new contract with the 24-year-old defensive mainstay. So, a 2024 move might not be on the cards.
