Liverpool and West Ham are among a host of teams following the developments around Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
According to Fussball Transfers, Piero Hincapie could become an option for Bayer Leverkusen to sell, with the defender garnering massive interest. The 21-year-old Bundesliga ace has already had plenty of suitors since breaking through in Germany, but now the club might seriously consider offers.
When Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp got asked if he was considering signing a replacement for the injured Joel Matip, he responded with a logical response. The German manager, in turn, asked which club would sell a top-rated defender in January.
In truth, there are only fewer options available ahead of next month for clubs who are keen on a new centre-back. Liverpool have links with many names but must pay a massive fee to secure their preferred targets.
Piero Hincapie was somewhat regarded as one of the promising young centre-backs around. His versatility to play even at left-back makes him a formidable option. Liverpool had interest in him but considered making a move only in the summer of 2024.
Matip’s injury might accelerate their efforts to bring in a new defender. The 21-year-old Bundesliga ace does not suit the profile they are looking for. Back in the summer, Bayer Leverkusen demanded €50 million, and they might ask for a similar price ahead of January.
Hincapie has not played much for Xabi Alonso’s title-chasing side, making only two starts in the Bundesliga. He does remain a big part of the Spaniard’s plans this season. Hence, there are chances of Leverkusen demanding significantly if suitors come forward.
West Ham are also considering a move for the Ecuadorian if he does become available in January. David Moyes might feel somewhat light at the back, with some of his backup players not performing to the required levels this season.
Hence, if the price does feel right, the Hammers could enter the conversation about signing Hincapie. The 21-year-old Bundesliga ace will have plenty of high-profile suitors if Lverkusen makes him available. Joining West Ham might remain in the order for the defender, especially if someone like Liverpool are also part of the equation.
