Bayern Munich’s move for Martin Zubimendi has reportedly brought Barcelona closer to signing Joshua Kimmich.

According to Adrian Sanchez, Joshua Kimmich remains the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closer to signing the 28-year-old Bayern Munich midfield powerhouse, with the Bundesliga champions pushing for the signature of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Joshua Kimmich: A Midfield Powerhouse

Joshua Kimmich has transformed into one of the best midfielders in the world since succeeding Philipp Lahm as Bayern Munich’s midfield general. The German international had served his club and country as a right-back until then. But the move to the middle of the park has served him and his teams well.

The 28-year-old is a mainstay in the middle of the park for Bayern Munich and Germany. Kimmich has turned out 367 times thus far for the Bundesliga champions, chipping in with 41 goals and 100 assists. In addition, the player has made 82 appearances for Germany, finding the back of the net six times.

But Kimmich’s long-term Bayern Munich future has been uncertain for a few weeks, especially since Thomas Tuchel expressed his desire to have a traditional holding midfield in his squad. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Will Barcelona Sign Kimmich?

Widespread reports have claimed that Xavi Hernandez is an admirer of Kimmich’s abilities. In addition, the 28-year-old likes Barcelona and is reportedly open to joining the Blaugrana. So, the stars might align for the German international and Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window, more so amid Bayern Munich’s interest in Martin Zubimendi.

The report claims that Bayern’s eagerness to secure Zubimendi’s services is bringing Joshua Kimmich closer to Barcelona. Interestingly, the Spanish international has been a target for the Blaugrana. But they have ruled out a move for the Real Sociedad midfield powerhouse. Kimmich also seemed out of Barcelona’s reach, but Adrian Sanchez reckons otherwise.

It will be interesting to see if a move for the 28-year-old German international sees the light of day. For now, it looks like Kimmich will join Barcelona if Martin Zubimendi moves to Bayern Munich next year.
