Chelsea keeping tabs on Viktor Gyokeres

Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of the winter transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Chelsea are interested in the services of Viktor Gyokeres and are keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old Swedish striker. He has been in sensational form in the ongoing season for Sporting CP and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.

Gyokeres joined the Portuguese club in the summer from Coventry and he has gone from strength to strength since. The Sweden international has featured in a total of 18 matches for Sporting CP and he already has 22 goal contributions.

The 25-year-old has scored 15 goals since the start of the season and his impressive run in front of goal has resulted in a lot of attention from across Europe. Some of the biggest clubs are keen on having him in their ranks.

Chelsea are one of the clubs that has been linked with the 25-year-old of late. The Blues might have signed Nicolas Jackson in the summer but he hasn’t been consistent enough and Mauricio Pochettino wants a more reliable goal scorer.

The Blues were struggling in front of the goal at the start of the season. While things have improved of late, the need for another number nine is quite clear. According to Romano, the London club are interested in the 25-year-old.

But, there is no clarity on whether they will be making any move in the upcoming transfer window or not. At this stage, the Blues are scouting the Sweden international. These are just normal scouting activities that big clubs do to sign some of the most talented players and the Sporting CP is amongst the most talented strikers.

While Chelsea are interested in him, there is nothing concrete at this stage. And, according to Romano, Sporting have no intentions of parting ways with the 25-year-old in the upcoming window. He is a key player in their first-team setup and they won’t sanction his departure mid-season. Meanwhile, there are numerous clubs that are tracking him for a potential transfer in 2024.
